Replace the worn and sagging steel plate spring on the trailer with a new spring. Trailers have multiple uses, and the springs under them have various shapes and sizes, and their load-bearing capacity matches the load-bearing capacity of the axle and the towing object. Order a spring of the same size and capacity as the one to be replaced. Pay attention to your spring style, eyes or slippers. The end of the slider can be a radial end, a hook shaped end, or a flat end. Measure the length, width, and height, count the leaves, and then find your spring on the chart. Take the 9/16 "shackle bolt from the eye.

How to Idenify Leaf Springs

One method of identifying leaf springs is to use the O.E.M. part number. O. The E.M or stamping number is located in each area of the leaf spring. You can quickly search for OEM part numbers and SRI numbers by entering the part number in the search box at the top of this page.

• Full cone springThe most common stamping number for fully tapered springs is at the end of the first blade. Other positions include the side, bottom, or top of the clamp, or the end of the packaging.
• Multi leaf springThe stamping number of multiple springs is most commonly found on the side, top, or bottom of the clamp. They may also appear at the bottom of the last leaf next to the central bolt or at the end of the shortest leaf.
• Trailer leaf springThe stamped number of the trailer leaf spring is located on the outer side of the hook.

In many cases, the stamping number may only contain a portion of the O.E.M. part number. Ford usually only stamps the prefix and suffix. You must add a base to complete the part number. For example, F3HT5310JA, D7HT5560AUA, or D1TA5588AA, where 5310 represents the front spring position, 5560 represents the rear position, and 5588 represents the auxiliary spring.

Measuring Trailer Leaf Springs

Accurately measuring the trailer springs and selecting the correct replacement parts is crucial for the functionality of the trailer, which will make replacement work easier. Using a replacement trailer spring with the correct length will keep the axle in the same position, eliminating the need to move fenders or suspension components such as spring hangers or equalizer hangers. Matching your load-bearing capacity, camber, and number of blades will maintain the trailer's ride height and driving characteristics unchanged. Making correct measurements and matching existing trailer springs will enable your trailer to quickly resume driving and reduce inconvenience.

  Measure the width of the trailer spring

Measure the width of the spring. Most trailer springs for boats, motorcycles, horses, camping, Flatbed trolley, and multipurpose trailers are 1-3/4 inches wide. To determine the width, simply measure along the center of the top blade.

Measure the length of the trailer leaf spring

Measure the length of the trailer leaf spring. If you want to replace the spring, it is important to obtain the same length. To measure the free length, refer to the letter "C" above. It is important to unload the trailer when measuring length. When determining the length (C), measure the distance from the center of one spring hole to the center of another double hole trailer spring hole. Determine the capacity of the spring

Determine the rated value of the trailer axle and then select the capacity of the spring. If you have a trailer axle with a rated weight of 6000 pounds and two springs, two trailer springs with a rated weight of 3000 pounds or higher will be used. Please note that the Nameplate capacity shown is for each trailer spring.After determining the capacity and quantity of the spring, calculate the number of steel plates for the current spring. If all springs need to be replaced, the number of blades is not that important. If you are willing, you can switch from 4 trailer springs to 3 trailer springs, which are made of thicker steel.

Measure the free opening and curvature of the trailer spring

Measure the free opening (H) and curvature (A) and (B) of the trailer spring. These measured values are more for reference and will vary with the aging and fatigue of the spring. These measurements can show you the importance of replacing all springs, rather than replacing one at a time. If your old spring loses its curvature over time and you add a new spring with a higher curvature on the other side of the trailer, your trailer will tilt to one side, resulting in uneven and unsafe loading.
