The spiral bevel gear has a curved pitch bevel teeth line. Similar to the meshing process of the straight bevel gear, its meshing is accompanied by the movement of the contact spots along the tooth height direction of the tooth surface. The contact area of the tooth surface starts from one end of the tooth and gradually moves to the other end. Due to the effects of overlapping tooth end faces (with several pairs of teeth entering into the mesh simultaneously), at least two teams of teeth are meshing simultaneously. Therefore, spiral bevel gears can transmit more load and work more smoothly than straight bevel gear and zero degrees spiral bevel gear of the same size (same module). Especially at high speeds, its noise and vibration are significantly less than those of the other two types of gears. The minimum number of teeth of spiral bevel gear can be reduced to six or even five, so the transmission ratio can be improved compared with the straight bevel gear.Controlling the local contact area of the tooth surface is one of the main characteristics of the spiral bevel gear.
