How Do Slew Drives Work?

The mechanics behind it are based on the concept of a worm gear, where a slewing bearing with external teeth meshes with a complementary worm gear with a predefined transmission ratio. Internal components are contained and assembled within cast iron or aluminum enclosures for protection and installation.The unique design of the slewing drive enables it to transmit high output rotational torque using two vertical planes with a relative speed ratio to its input. As the worm gear rotates with a low input torque on the horizontal plane, its hardened teeth transmit the rotational motion to the outer rotating teeth. This force generates rotation about the vertical axis of the rotary drive by the rotary outer ring.Versatility and weight allow slewing drives as a straightforward solution to rotation-related problems.
