How Does A Hydraulic Cylinder Work?

Here is a simplified explanation of how a hydraulic cylinder works:

1. Basic Components:
   • Cylinder Barrel: It is a cylindrical tube that forms the main body of the hydraulic cylinder.

2. Hydraulic Fluid:

3. Piston Movement:
   • When pressurized fluid is introduced into one chamber of the cylinder, it acts on the piston surface, creating a force.
   • This force causes the piston to move in the cylinder barrel, along with the connected piston rod.
   • As the piston moves, it exerts a linear force and motion, which can be used for various applications such as lifting, pushing, or pulling.
4. Fluid Transfer:
   • When the piston moves in one direction, it displaces the hydraulic fluid from one chamber to the other.
   • The displaced fluid flows through internal passages or channels within the cylinder to transfer from one side of the piston to the other.
   • The fluid pressure is maintained to ensure continuous force generation and smooth operation of the cylinder.
5. Control:
   • The flow of hydraulic fluid into and out of the cylinder is controlled by valves, which regulate the fluid flow direction and rate.
