The sun gear is located at the center of the planetary gearbox and is typically connected to the input shaft or fixed on the housing as a stationary component.
The planet gears rotate around the sun gear and are supported and maintained in their relative positions by the planetary carrier. Each planet gear meshes with both the sun gear and the internal gear, and collectively they bear and distribute the load when power is inputted.

The working principle of the High Precision Planetary Gearbox is based on torque transmission, speed conversion and torque amplification, low backlash design, and load distribution and dynamic response, as explained below:
When power is inputted to the sun gear, it drives the planet gears in rotation. Since the planet gears mesh with both the sun gear and internal gear, they rotate on their own axes and revolve around the center of the sun gear with the planetary carrier. This way, the torque inputted to the sun gear is amplified and evenly distributed to the planetary carrier at the output end through the planet gears.
By adjusting the gear ratio of different components, speed conversion and torque amplification between input and output can be realized. Generally, when there are more planet gears or the gear ratio is increased, the amplification of torque is more significant, but at the same time, the output speed will decrease.
In high precision applications, to ensure accurate position control and minimal mechanical clearance, the high precision planetary gearbox adopts preload technology to reduce or eliminate gear clearance, i.e., ""zero/low backlash"" design.
One significant advantage of the planetary gear mechanism is that it can evenly distribute the load among multiple planet gears, thereby improving the load-carrying capacity and stability of the entire system and optimizing its dynamic response performance.
