Trailer Brake

Electric brakes are currently a valuable alternative to brake drums. Electric brakes are the most common braking system installed on trailers. Electronic brakes require a controller installed on the vehicle, which allows for the correct transmission of power to ensure braking occurs. There is a magnet on the inner side of the back panel, which has 2 wires that can be directly wrapped in the trailer wiring. When energized, it magnetizes the brake magnet, which is attracted to the surface of the brake drum. When it comes into contact with this area, friction causes the brake drum to rotate, thereby moving the actuating arm and pushing the brake shoes out of the brake drum, causing the wheels to stop rotating. There is a special brake pad material on the brake shoes that can resist the heat generated by friction. The electric braking is smooth and without jerks, which will not generate shocks or jerks related to the disconnection of the electronic brake from the normal hydraulic brake connection. Compared to general mechanical friction braking, electric braking is also fast.

How to Identify Electric Brakes？

1. Right or Left: With the magnet positioned at the bottom of the brake, the actuating arm will start at the "Top Pivot" and curve downward towards the "Magnet". Arms curving Left, are left hand assemblies, where as arms curving Right, are right hand assemblies.
2. Size: Measure the diameter of the mounted shoe assemblies across the front center, then measure the width of the shoe lining. This will give you your brakes size.
3. Flange Mount: Determine the number of mounting bolts on your brake by counting the mounting holes, or studs on your brakes assembly.
4. Replacement Parts: Sometimes a brakes functions can be restored by replacing a key component. Where as in some cases it may be cost effective to replace the entire brake assembly. Here is a list of the common replaceable parts.
