Shear bolt torque limiters type SB is devices able to interrupt power transmission when the torque transmitted exceeds the setting. This interruption in power is caused by the shearing of a bolt. This bolt must be replaced before power can be restored. The use of shear bolt torque limiters is recommended to avoid damage to drivelines mounted on implements subject to accidental overloads or torque peaks.Note: For the safety of the operator and the reliable function of the driveline, replace the bolt only with one equal in length, diameter, and grade to the original.The torque setting for shear bolt torque limiters is usually two or three times the median torque M and must never exceed the maximum torque of the driveline (Max). Standard settings for each size of SFT driveline are in the table to the right. SB torque limiters size S1 to S4 have a pushpin attachment to the splined shaft. How Do Shear Pin Torque Limiters Work?

Shear pin torque limiters are a simple, cost-effective design for protecting equipment from torque overloads. When torque is being transmitted from the driving to the driven load, the pin experiences a shear force. If the transmitted torque causes a force that exceeds the pin’s shear strength, the pin breaks and the driving and driven loads are immediately de-coupled. This immediate de-coupling of the load makes the shear pin design a type of “disconnect” torque limiter.It limits the torque thanks to the shearing of a bolt, which must be replaced to reset the transmission of power. The intervention torque depends on the distance of the bolt from the axis of transmission, its diameter and class of resistance.When the torque exceeds that supported by the bolt, the latter shears and the power transmitted is annulled. To restore the transmission, the sheared bolt must be replaced with one having the same characteristics (diameter, class of resistance, threaded portion and length) as the original bolt.
