Precautions for Using Round Baler PTO Shaft

In order to fully improve work efficiency, ensure the stability of the work, and prolong the service life of the machinery, agricultural machinery will also be used together. Today, we will give you a brief introduction to the use of agricultural machinery; PTO drive shaft installation should be how to coordinate. Taking the combined baler as an example, the following transmission shaft problems should be paid attention to when it is used with the tractor.1. When mounting the packing machine, the PTO shaft should be in a straight line with the tractor PTO shaft of the crawler tractor.2. PTO drive shaft assembly is an important working component for transmitting tractor power. When installing the PTO drive shaft assembly, it should be noted that the two dips of the intermediate power output shaft should be located in the same plane. It is easy to install errors without attention. If the opening direction is staggered 90°, it is easy to damage the cross joint of the PTO shaft.3. When the ground turns, the PTO power output shaft should be separated, the rototiller should stop, and then connected after the turn; otherwise, it will waste power or the drive shaft will hit the limit chain.4. Due to the large working resistance of the baler, it is necessary to add lubricating grease to the intermediate gearbox and PTO drive shaft regularly in the process of use to reduce wear.

Round Baler PTO Shaft Maintenance

The PTO shaft should be greased regularly to keep the universal joints from failing and to stop the shaft from seizing. Failure to grease your shaft regularly or as outlined in the PTO shaft’s maintenance schedule could result in end thrust potentially destroying the implement’s gearbox. It is recommended to grease standard universal joints every 20 hours or 8 hours for severe conditions. Remember! Grease follows the easiest path through internal ports to the four cross bearings. Overheating and poor quality grease baked in one port will prevent grease reaching that bearing, resulting in failure of individual cross bearings. Most importantly ensure that you fully open the guard cover to ensure grease flows to all cross bearings. Greasing through the small guard access hole is not good enough. Also check the state of the PTO safety guards, if they are damaged or in poor condition arrange replacement assuring the safety of the operator.

Round Baler PTO Shaft Length Requirements

The PTO shaft is the system that delivers power to your implement. It is therefore important to understand how it operates to ensure user safety. It is also imperative to be aware of maintenance requirements to prevent any potential mechanical problems. PTO shafts have a rating and are not necessarily interchangeable between round balers or implements. It is therefore important to fit the correct shaft to the implement, according to the manufacturer’s specifications and to make sure it is the correct length.

• Length: The length of the PTO shaft is determined when setting up an implement on a round baler for the first time. If shortening of the PTO shaft is required the operator must use the supplier’s formula to cut the shaft to the correct length. This is normally done by taking measurements from the round baler output shaft and implement input shaft to implement where the PTO shaft will be at its shortest.
• Too long: If your PTO shaft is too long (or is the telescopic tubes have seized) “end thrust” can occur which can destroy your round balers internal PTO drive or implement clutch and gearbox, potentially voiding your machine warranty.
• Too Short: If the shaft is too short it could potentially separate from the implement posing major safety issues and possible damage.

PTO Shaft for Agricultural Gearbox

Agricultural equipment includes various PTO shafts. Each one is connected by yokes at each end and rotates between 540 and 1,000 rpm. A safety universal PTO shield is commonly installed on both ends of a PTO shaft to protect the operator. These protective shields are also found in tractors and agricultural implements, ensuring maximum efficiency. The use of internal yokes also provides added safety.The agricultural gearbox is designed to change the output speed of a PTO drive shaft. It can be used as a decreasing or increasing ratio gearbox. With the decreased ratio gearbox, it reduces the PTO shaft's speed from 1000 rpm to 540 rpm, allowing you to use equipment designed for 540 rpm.
