A slewing drive is a gearbox specially designed to handle high axial, radial, and tilt moment loads while providing high rotational output torque. In different applications, slewing drives can also be called worm gear slewing drives, slewing drives, turret bearings, worm drives, rotary units, and many other slewing product labels.Slewing drives are unique on the market due to their versatility. While slewing drives are standard in size and external dimensions, custom and customer-specific requirements can be followed in the early design stages. The worm gear input can be modified to accommodate different motor input shaft sizes according to application requirements. Cast iron or aluminum end caps are bolted to both sides of the worm shaft to press the gears into place. This prevents axial play and provides better backlash control. The standard orientation of the slewing drive is horizontal, allowing high axial loads and minimal radial loads. However, the vertical direction is widely distributed in different applications. The number of bolts and their distribution on the slewing drive surface play an essential role in the load capacity of the slewing drive. Still, custom modifications can be made to fit/replace the current models used by our customers.

The Benefits of Using Slewing Drive Technology:
Slewing drives are a powerful and cost-effective alternative to traditional gearbox systems. Its advantages include:(1) High Power Density: While slewing rings are most commonly used to generate slewing rotation, slewing drive technology utilizes the capacity of its internal slewing ring while introducing a built-in drive through a worm gear. The worm gear design allows better speed and reduction ratio control than the standard slewing ring and pinion.(2) Space saving: Slewing drives can save a lot of space in the vertical plane, as no other gearbox is required for speed reduction.(3) Protecting Internal Components: In harsh environments, enclosed housing slewing drives protect internal components from debris and contamination with different sealing solutions.(4) Plug and Play: Once the slew drive is in place and connected to power, it can be integrated and installed into any system. This setting improves the corrective adjustments made to the older system.(5) Customizable: Slewing drives can be customized to suit their application, including multiple drive motors to double torque capacity.
Applications Field of Slewing Drive
Slewing drives can be found in many applications, including:— Construction Equipment.— Renewable energy solar trackers and wind turbines.— Turntable and Welding Positioner.— Packaging and packaging equipment.— assembly line.— Air platform.— vacuum truck.— public transport. Many of these applications are OEM. OEM slewing drives can be customized to fit these high-volume OEM applications.

FAQ About Slew Drives
1. What is the prime mover for slew drive?
A: An electric or hydraulic motor is the prime mover for slew drive.
2. Does slew drive requires a brake or not?
A: Depends upon the requirement and application.
3: Where is slew drive used?
A: Slew drive is used for any machine having turning movement. Usually, it is used with slew bearings with internal or external teeth, and the gearbox has a pinion on the output shaft that drives the big gear of the slew bearing.4. What type of gearbox is used in slew drive?
A: Planetary gearbox is used in slew drive.5: What kind of braking arrangement is provided for slew drive?
A: Normally, slew drives are electric or hydraulic. The electric type has got shoe type brake or Negative electromagnetic brake on the motor. At the same time, the hydraulic type has got a multidisc hydraulic brake.6. What type of bearings are used in this slew drive?
A: Spherical or roller bearings are usually used in the slew gearbox output shafts to take care of high radial loading.
7. Which type of pinion is used in the slew drive?A: Normally, the slew drive has a pinion with a corrected profile to ensure a complete contact pattern with bearing gear.
8. How is backlash adjusted in slew drive?
A: To adjust the backlash between the pinion and slew gear, the gearbox's mounting is slightly eccentric to adjust the backlash precisely.
9. Slew drive is used for which applications?
A: Slew drive is used for stacker, ash handling reclaimer, windmill, tower cranes, and excavators.
