Different types of rack and pinion

There are different types of rack and pinion mechanisms. A rack and pinion with a 20-degree involute spur gear are the most common. In the past, 14-1/2 degree spur gears were used. These systems are classified according to their degree identification, which describes the angle of the gear teeth and the line of contact between them. A higher degree means a higher ratio, and a more minor degree means a lower ratio.Another type is called helical gear.
