How to lubricate your chain

• The flow of lubricating oil

Each hinge of the roller chain is a radial bearing, so it must be fully and effectively lubricated to obtain the highest wear life. Adequate lubrication can reduce the wear of pin shaft and sleeve sound and make the sprocket and chain roller flat, slow down the impact of roller and sprocket, make heat loss, take away wear debris and foreign matters, and prevent corrosion.Before the chain is engaged with the sprocket, the lubricating oil shall be applied to the upper part of the chain plate at the sagging section. Gravity and centrifugal force will cause the lubricating oil to flow to the surface of the pin shaft and sleeve to be lubricated. The lubricant carried by the edge of the chain plate also provides lubrication to the surface of the pin shaft and the sleeve.

• Characteristics of lubricants

The lubricant for roller chain transmission shall have the following characteristics:

1. ?Sufficiently low viscosity to allow lubricating oil to penetrate the surface to be lubricated;
2. ?Maintain sufficient viscosity of lubricating oil film or add appropriate additives under normal bearing pressure;
